The preparations for these silent film live scores were created in August and September 2023 for the "1920s Avant-Garde on 16mm" event, hosted by Pittsburgh Sound + Image at Eberle Studios on 09/27/2023. The event was part of the first Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival.

Water (moved, blown, cupped) and seeds in a bowl were recorded and subjected to processing in Reaper and Max. These recordings were used as samples that could be manipulated live via a Max patch for each of the films (Emak-Bakia, L'Étoile de mer, The Fall of the House of Usher, Anemic Cinema, Rhythmus 21, Ballet Mécanique). The Max patch also included two sine wave units, each consisting of three frequencies and possibilities for oscillations. Live percussion -- namely a wooden xylophone and pitched metals -- was also used.

The recordings on this release, representing three of the films, are studio recreations of the live scores, but made without watching the films. Thus, the lengths may vary and the musical events may not match the filmic events.
