Both "All Saints Requiem" (to be released later this summer) and "A Wilderness Cantata" are works of collaboration. Composed and premiered between 2020 and 2023, these works featured choirs and soloists from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mt. Lebanon, CamerataChoir of St. Vincent's, Latrobe and singers from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. As music director at St. Paul's from 1993 until May, 2023, I had the privilege of composing several major sacred music works. The Requiem and Cantata are two highlights. Requiem texts are in traditional Latin with English text "tropes;" poetry of my mother and father, hence the title All Saints Requiem. A Wilderness Cantata is a reflection on the recent pandemic isolation in three movements on texts from three Old Testament wilderness experiences from the books of Hosea, 1 Kings and the poetic tragedy of Job. - Doug Starr
