about

*an archival release*

The songs that make up this collection were recorded as the follow-up to Assembly's Happener-Magicker LP, released on Sort Of Records in 2009. It is kind of obvious that this record is a complete mess of unfinished ideas. At the time, Assembly was a five-piece band that played the same set (with thrilling results) for basically its entire three or four-year run. The sets were so much fun to play, but I was struggling to write new material. I was really interested in expanding to a more jazz-oriented sound, but didn't really have the patience to figure out what that meant. Much of this music was made after I was recovering from surgery related to a blood clot, and I was clearly having difficulty figuring out how to refine and finish the songs.

At any rate, these recordings have been sitting around for a while and I like a lot of what they could have been. Here is a collaged edit of the best bits.

These songs were recorded in the Fall of 2008 in the former First United Presbyterian Church in Braddock, PA (keep an ear out for those roomy drums) and throughout 2009 at Woolslayer Traveling Studios.
